the trail.
Outdoors,
together.

The group has completed over 45 hikes across Australia, mainly in Victoria, from coastal trails to mountain summits.

Hikes are friendly and social: slow-to-medium pace, regular breaks, a lunch stop, and usually an optional meal together on the way back to the city.

A few things to know

First hike? You’re welcome.

Can I bring a friend?

Yes! Each person needs their own ticket on Eventbrite, and everyone must be 18+.

Can I join if I've never hiked before?

Yes. Hikes are social and intentionally slow-to-medium pace with breaks and a lunch stop. Check the distance and difficulty on each hike page, and talk to the organisers first if you have any health concerns.

How does carpooling work after I buy a ticket?

Open the carpool spreadsheet linked on the hike page. Drivers list their seats and pick-up points (often train stations); passengers contact drivers directly. Ideally sort your ride before buying a ticket. Drivers can buy the cheaper driver ticket.

Do you organise the carpooling for us?

No. Carpooling is a community initiative, not a service. The organisers provide the spreadsheet; drivers and passengers arrange things directly.

What should I bring?

Comfortable hiking shoes, 2–3 L of water, snacks or lunch, sun protection (hat, sunglasses, sunscreen) and bug spray. Optional: hiking poles and a raincoat. Use the toilet before you arrive.

What's included in the ticket price?

Public liability insurance, the per-person Parks Victoria contribution, guides with a tour operator licence, and a first aid kit and safety gear. Petrol, parking and food are not included.

What happens if it rains?

Light rain is usually fine. Heavy rain (over 15 mm in 6 hours or 20+ mm in the day), thunderstorms, or soaked trails mean the hike may be postponed or adjusted. Updates go to the Instagram group chat.

What is the refund policy?

Non-refundable unless the hike is cancelled or rescheduled. Transfers to another hike only if the organisers agree.

How do I contact the organiser?

DM @socialhikesau on Instagram, or use 'Contact the organiser' on Eventbrite.

Still have a question? DM @socialhikesau on Instagram or ask the hike helper.
