Weather & rain plan

Forecast available ~2 weeks out.

The group’s rain policy

The hike may be postponed or adjusted if the forecast shows more than 15 mm in 6 hours or 20+ mm during the day, thunderstorms, or trails still soaked from heavy rain in the previous days. Light rain (under 5 mm/hour) is usually fine and is judged case by case. If conditions get worse, the hike moves to the following event.

The organisers make the call. Updates are in the Instagram group chat.

Forecasts supplied by Open-Meteo when available.

Good to know

A few trail notes

Before you go
  • Use the toilet before arriving. Facilities may not be available at the meeting point or on the trail.
  • Arrange your carpool before buying a ticket.
  • Expect rocky sections along the river with fixed cables. Good grip shoes matter.
After-hike meal

Optional meal at a café or restaurant on the way back to the city. Pay your own way; venue confirmed in the group chat on the day.

After the hike the group usually eats together at a café or restaurant on the way back toward the city. It's optional and everyone pays for their own meal. You pick Yes / No / Not sure when booking; the venue is confirmed in the group chat on the day.

Respect & conduct

Respectful behaviour is required. Zero tolerance for unwelcome behaviour.

Smoking & vaping

No smoking or vaping during the hike or while walking with the group. People who break this rule may be asked to leave and barred from future hikes.

Safety on the trail

Hikers take part at their own risk and are responsible for their own safety and belongings. Organisers carry a first aid kit.

Health & injuries

Discuss any injuries, medical conditions or health concerns with the organisers before buying a ticket.

Refunds & ticket transfers

Tickets are non-refundable unless the hike is cancelled or rescheduled. Tickets can't be moved to another hike unless the organisers agree. (Eventbrite's own refund field says 'No refunds'.)

Participation & liability

Social Hikes Australia is not liable for accidents, injuries, illnesses, theft or transport issues. Participation is voluntary and at your own risk.

Carpool arrangements

Carpooling is a community initiative, not a service. Passengers contact drivers directly using the carpool spreadsheet. Organisers recommend arranging a ride before buying a ticket, and are not liable for driver mix-ups or missed pick-ups. Don't swap arrangements unless everyone agrees. Petrol and parking costs are agreed directly between driver and passengers.
